About me

I'm a backend & systems developer and open source maintainer based in El Salvador. I build tools that make everyday work easier, from database utilities and macOS apps to bots and web applications. I care about making knowledge and useful software more accessible, especially where resources are limited.

Open source & mentoring

Rocket.Chat & Google Summer of Code

My open source work includes reviewing pull requests, triaging issues, and mentoring Google Summer of Code contributors at Rocket.Chat. I care about helping people understand the code they're changing, write useful tests, and take responsibility for what they ship. Maintaining software means making time for the people building it, too.

Things I've built

ReadStats

Apple Books holds a lot of reading history, but it's hard to see the whole picture. I mapped its SQLite databases and built a macOS menu-bar app to explore reading progress, unfinished books, and highlights.

PortsApp

A Swift macOS menu-bar app for seeing which processes are listening on local ports. It identifies Docker containers, shows process trees, and lets me stop a process or open its local URL without digging through terminal output.

Oplog Viewer

A TypeScript command-line tool for watching MongoDB's operation log. It connects to a database and filters events by namespace, making it easier to inspect changes as they happen.

Gatsby Google Drive plugin

I wanted to publish my talks without manually copying files out of Google Drive, so I built a plugin that downloads a folder and its subfolders during a Gatsby build. It became the bridge between the presentations I edited in Drive and the files served by my site.

Visible Ads

I built a Chrome extension that adds a blue border to Google search ads, making them easier to spot. The accompanying tutorial walks through the manifest, background scripts, and content scripts.

Private projects

Some of my work lives in private repositories: tools for managing paperwork, organizing community activities, and learning from the things I read.

CCFMaster

An invoice tracker built around El Salvador's electronic tax documents. It collects PDF and JSON documents from Gmail, classifies them by document type, and stores them in SQLite. A web interface and Telegram bot make it easier to review invoices, retrieve files, and prepare the month's paperwork.

PreachHelper

A scheduling app for congregation territory assignments. It builds monthly programs, balances assignments across groups, tracks daily progress, and generates printable records. I built it with Node.js, Express, and SQLite, with Spanish and English interfaces.

WiseTok

A study app that turns documents into short, scrollable knowledge cards. It combines a React interface with document conversion and AI extraction, with support for hosted models or local models through Ollama. SQLite keeps the cards available without processing the same file again.
